Banana Crafts studio was set-up in 2013 by Anagha and Anirban. The idea was to open a place where they could work together as a Textile designer and a Painter/Tattoo artist and have other artists to display/perform their art, and gradually a number of artists/designers have since joined in with their unique creations.
TEXTILES: The main focus is on designing silhouettes in a way that enhances the intricate techniques that has gone behind creating each and every piece of fabric. The fabrics are mainly sourced from the handloom villages/artists from different parts of india.
Like Ikats from Barpali in Sambalpur, Odisha and Pochampally in Andhra Pradesh. Block Prints, Tie-Dyes, Resists and Batiks from Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal and other fabrics in Linen, Cotton, various Silks and Khadi.
Anagha has a B.F.A. degree in Textiles from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai and Fashion from Istituto Marangoni, Milan. But her main love lies working in Indian Handloom products which sends her in quests for sniffing out hidden hamlets where these are said to be found.
Anirban has a Masters degree in Painting and Print-making from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai. After a few years working as an illustrator/Painter of canvases and walls, he started tattooing in 2009, which came as quite a natural progression to him. He now tattoos and illustrates from the Studio.
